Cold temps linger heading into weekend

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Thursday morning temperatures around Charlotte were the coldest they've been in about two weeks.

The chill will remain for the rest of the week and may actually get colder Friday.

Cool northeast winds will drop area highs to the upper 40s Friday afternoon as we enter the Carolina wedge pattern.

The weekend storm system continues to look very weak and the amount of precipitation the Queen City sees will be minimal.

Travel troubles are not expected Saturday, even though a few areas could see some brief freezing rain or sleet. The warmer and drier weather will return by the end of the weekend.

It will remain very cool Thursday, with highs staying in the lower 50s.
