Couple robbed, shot in Plaza Midwood; 3 arrested after chase, crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said they have arrested and charged three people after a man and woman were robbed and shot in a Plaza Midwood shopping center parking lot late Saturday night.

Investigators told Channel 9 that a man walked up and robbed the couple in the parking lot on Central Avenue, near Pecan Avenue, around 11 p.m.

During the robbery, police said the suspect shot the pair.

The shooter then took off in a car with two other suspects, according to police.

Two off-duty officers nearby heard the shots, and while one stayed with the victims, the other chased the vehicle, which ended up crashing near Novant Presbyterian.

Police said two of the suspects managed to escape while officers took the third into custody. Later Sunday morning, police said all three had been arrested and charged.

Officers identified the suspects as Antonio Worthy, 25, Jamall Glenn, 33, and Ebonee Ward, 29.

Both Worthy and Ward were charged with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and resist, delay and obstruct.

Glenn was also charged with two counts of armed robbery, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and resist, delay and obstruct. He was also charged with two counts of hit-and-run, firearm by a felon, filing a false police report and felony flee to elude.

The shooting victims were taken to Carolinas Medical Center but it was unclear how badly they were hurt.

Police found their belongings inside the car and also seized a handgun.

Channel 9 has reported on several other crimes in the Plaza Midwood area over the last two months.

In October, police said Ketie Jones was shot and killed while walking home from a bar.

Earlier this month, officers said several suspects robbed two college students at gunpoint.

Both cases remain unsolved.
