More charges possible after CMPD chases involving stolen bikes, ATVs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers in several different divisions are trying to sort out the investigation into stolen ATVs and dirt bikes that resulted in a high-speed chase through northwest Charlotte Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators could announce more details and charges Thursday in the case.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom was over the scene as the rider darted in and out of traffic, narrowly missing a school bus.

Police said some of the bikes and ATVs were stolen.

Four dirt bikes and two ATVs were recovered Tuesday and authorities arrested three people: Bobby Abraham, Mark Monds and Kevin Jackson.

One of the stolen bikes was returned to its owner Kyle Gandy.

Gandy told Channel 9 he met a young man on Monday who he thought wanted to buy his bike, but instead the potential buyer jumped on it and took off.

"He kicked it off and took off on it, that was it," Gandy said.

Police called Gandy on Tuesday and told him they had his bike.

Abraham is facing five charges, including assault with a deadly weapon on a government official. The others are charged with reckless driving and fleeing and eluding police.
