Dozens rescued from flooded vehicles, homes in NC

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Flooding is causing big problems in the Fayetteville area as storms move across North Carolina.

City officials said they rescued 74 people in Tuesday afternoon's storms. That included people trapped in flooded homes and vehicles.

Two people were taken to a hospital. There was no immediate word on their conditions.

Fire department officials said lightning strikes caused two fires.

A number of roads were closed for a time, but most of those were open Wednesday morning.

Seven buildings at Fayetteville State University suffered flooding on the ground floors.

Flooding problems also were reported in Wilson County. There were no immediate reports of injuries there. Golf-ball sized hail was reported in Wilson on Tuesday.

Wilson County schools were closed Wednesday.
