CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Charlotte native Emily Maynard met 25 eligible bachelors on the season premiere of “The Bachelorette,” and she said some of their gimmicks helped break the ice.
One came dressed as a grandma, while other suitors brought along props ranging from an ostrich egg to a glass slipper.
“There were a lot (of entrances) that I just thought were funny in the moment, and even the really cheesy ones were a great icebreaker, I think, especially in that moment when you’re so nervous,” Maynard said.
Viewers saw several men go home at the end of Monday’s premiere, including a fitness model who took off his shirt during his closing interview. Maynard said he just wasn’t her type.
“He was very nice during our conversation but I just kind of have the feeling that we wouldn’t be that great for each other in the long run,” she said. “I can confidently say that any guy that would take his shirt off and say that is probably not my type.”
Maynard, who has said before she doesn’t like to be the center of attention, decided to watch the premiere alone. She said watching herself on camera isn’t always easy.
“It’s fun for me in one way because I get to see all the behind the scenes stuff, you know, with the guys and all that I didn’t get to be there for, but at the same time, it is just painful. I am my own worst critic,” Maynard said. “I have to watch it by myself.”
When asked if she is in love right now, Maynard kept mum.
“You have to watch,” she said.
Episode two airs at 9 p.m. Monday on Channel 9.
