Group ranks Charlotte in top 10 cities for urban forests

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

American Forests ranked Charlotte among the top 10 cities for urban forests.

It looked at things like tree canopy goals, community effort in preserving trees and plants, and accessibility of parks.

The group estimated that Charlotte's trees provide more than $900,000 in energy savings each year, and also that the aesthetic value of Charlotte's urban trees, impacting things like property values, provides the city with $2.76 million in benefits.

The other cities chosen were Austin, Denver, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, New York, Portland, Sacramento, Seattle and Washington, D.C.
