ROCK HILL, S.C. —

The local community will gather at Revert Skate Park in Rock Hill to help raise money for one Charlotte family.

Gabe Ospina was born three years ago with spina bifida. Gabe's parents were told that he would never walk or even be able to use the bathroom on his own.

The Ospinas have gone out of the country twice for stem cell treatments that have proved to be incredibly successful.

Gabe is expected to have his third treatment in March, but his family is far short of the funds needed for the travel and treatment.

One local 13-year-old, Joe Halyburton, introduced the idea of holding a skateboarding event to help the family.

The community will be getting together on Feb. 9 to help the family.

There will be live music, food, skateboarding, contests, a bake sale and a huge raffle with prizes from both the skate world world and non-skate related world.

The secondary mission of the event is to give the kids of the community a chance to learn to be compassionate and to work for a common good.
