Police said the body of Roosevelt Hinton, 68, was discovered by a delivery driver dropping off beer Thursday afternoon. The driver told police he saw a man leaving the bar in a black coupe moments before the driver walked inside and found Hinton's body.
Dozens of relatives and friends met for a vigil outside Get-A-Way Lounge that Hinton opened back in 1972.
"He was an honest man and a giving man," said Hinton's nephew Richard Lockhart. "You see all these people out here showing their support and respect. We are confident that he (the killer) will be brought to justice."
People at the vigil told Eyewitness News Hinton's death is a loss for the entire community.
Lavaughn Tillman attended church with Hinton. "He's been a role model, provider and a friend," said Tillman. "There's not enough words to express the great gratitude and love we have for him."
Police asked that anyone with information about the murder call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
