Officials investigate homicide after man found dead in truck

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities in Lancaster County are investigating after a man was found dead inside a truck.

Officials said around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Lancaster County Sheriff's Office deputy met with a person on John Everall Road at Sunnybrook Lane. The person told the deputy he saw a truck parked on nearby land, and an unconscious man was inside.

The deputy found a dark green 2001 Ford F-150 on a farm road off John Everall Road.

Brandon Wheeler Reese, 22, was found dead in his truck, officials said. It appears he was shot.

“We need to know Mr. Reese’s movements Monday, Monday night and into Tuesday morning,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “We ask that anyone who had contact with him during this time frame, anyone who saw the truck on John Everall Road and anyone with any knowledge of this incident contact us immediately. Our investigative resources are focused on this case, and we intend to find out who is responsible for Mr. Reese’s death.”

The scene was secured, and other deputies, investigators, crime scene investigators and State Law Enforcement Division agents responded and remained at the scene until well after dark.

"It's shocking,” said Troy Henderson who lives on John Everall Road. “You would never think something like this would happen in a small-country town like Lancaster."

Henderson moved from Maryland into his home in Lancaster.

He said Lancaster citizens rarely worry about crime.

"You want to lock your doors," Henderson said.

The truck was towed to the Sheriff’s Office and was secured for processing.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday morning. Investigators collected evidence, gathered leads and interviewed several people Tuesday night.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrest has been made.
