On-duty Iredell officer involved in wreck

BOONE, N.C. — An Iredell County Sheriff's Office detention officer was involved in a crash in Boone on Tuesday afternoon after returning an inmate to Watauga County, according to Channel 9's partners at the Statesville Record and Landmark.

According to the report, Deputy David Maynard was driving a patrol vehicle with an inmate in the back on King Street and the patrol vehicle struck the rear of another vehicle.

That second vehicle then struck a third car.

The Boone police officer who took the report on the wreck indicated Maynard failed to reduce speed to avoid hitting the second vehicle.

Watauga EMS treated the inmate on the scene and then taken to the Watauga County Detention Center.
