'Miracle on the Hudson' airliner placed in storage as NC museum finds new home

One of the most famous planes that has been on display in Charlotte for years is going into storage.

The United Airliner that landed on the Hudson River in 2009 went into storage Saturday at the Carolinas Aviation Museum.

It will stay there for the next three years while the museum works to move to a new home.

"It's our responsibility as a museum , working with the airport, working with the city, to make sure we take care of that sensitive aircraft that is also a very sacred part of our American history," Carolinas Aviation Museum spokesman Stephen Saucier said.

Everyone on board 10 years ago survived the crash, thanks to the heroic efforts of Captain '"Sully" Sullenberger.

It took about 40 people to move the plane to its temporary location, officials said.
