CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a man died in an early-morning crash Saturday.
It happened just after 6 a.m. on Shamrock Drive.
When officers got there, they found a Toyota Corolla about 40-50 feet off the roadway in a soccer field.
Investigators said the car was headed west on Shamrock at a high rate of speed when it crossed the center line, went off the road and over an embankment - hitting a tree - before coming to rest in the field.
The dead man was identified as Christian Lee McCullar. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was a factor in the crash.
