2 charged in connection with deadly drive-by shooting in Dallas

DALLAS, N.C. — Officials told Channel 9 last week that a Dallas man who was shot in his car Tuesday night on East Carpenter Street in Dallas had died.

That night, dozens of people came out to honor Ralpheal Kennedy, who was shot during the drive-by.

“Obviously this is just another case of nonsense,” friend Quadroy Watson said. “Everybody out here doing these shootings and it’s just pointless.”

Two people have been arrested and charged in connection with the homicide.

Aaron Rainey was charged with first-degree murder and Amber Deaton was charged with accessory after the fact.

Channel 9's Ken Lemon spoke to people in the community who said that Kennedy was a mentor to young children in the neighborhood. Some parents said they're not sure how they're going to explain to their children that Kennedy has died.

Police have not said if Kennedy was targeted in the shooting.

Kennedy was humble and sweet, a cousin said.

"It’s really heartbreaking,” Jessica Brown said. “Never expected it."

Kennedy's family was already in mourning before the shooting. Another close family member had just died, and Kennedy was at the home visiting when he was shot.

"I heard screaming and shooting and they say Ralph had gotten shot, and just broken down in tears," family friend Teretha Alexander said.

Alexander said Kennedy was like a son to her and saw him behind the wheel of the car after the shooting.

"The people who did this should get what they deserve,” Alexander said. “I want them to get the max."
