1 injured in rollover crash on I-40 in Catawba County

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — One person was injured Saturday evening in a rollover crash on Interstate 40 in Catawba County.

The crash happened near mile-marker 138 around 5:23 p.m., officials said.

Officials said a woman was driving eastbound on the interstate when she struck a guardrail, causing her vehicle to flip over and land in the westbound lane.

Officials with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the victim was flown from Catawba Valley Medical Center to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment, but they didn’t comment on the extent of her injuries.

The crash caused congestion near the exit for Oxford School Road, and authorities said one road was shut down for an hour and a half. Both later cleared.
