1 killed, 1 hurt in serious crash in Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. — Authorities are investigating a serious crash in Gastonia that killed a 50-year-old man and injured another person.

Paramedics were called around 7 a.m. to Redbud Road at Hudson Boulevard, where two people were taken to the hospital.

Eddie Shook, 50, was driving 2015 Chevrolet Malibu and making a left turn onto Redbud Drive when investigators said he was hit by a 1996 Ford F350 heading south on Redbud Drive. Jadiel Gonzalez, 22, was driving the Ford F350.

Shook was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. A passenger in the back seat of his vehicle was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Officers said they're using this serious crash to remind drivers to use extra caution during the holiday season.

"More people out on the road, more people out here shopping, getting ready for the holiday season and maybe not paying attention to the road as they normally may be doing so," Gastonia police Sgt. Keith McCabe said.

The collision is still being investigated. Anyone who may have seen the crash or have additional information is asked to call Officer C.J. Bain at 704-866-6702.
