Arrest made in Saturday Indian Trail shooting

INDIAN TRAIL, NC —
The Union County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that happened in Indian Trail around 5 a.m. Saturday.

Officials say one person was shot near a park on the 6000 block of Creft Circle. That victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center and is in stable condition. His name has not been released.

Investigators say a group of people met in a local park to fight. During the fight, a friend of one of the people involved shot the victim in the leg.

Antwoine Nicole Shannon, 30, of Indian Trail was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Residents of the neighborhood said it's unsettling to hear about something like this happening.

"It's kind of shocking," said Jess McMullen. "We walk our kids down here almost every night and shoot ball on this court sometimes, so we're kind of surprised."
