Child rescued from swimming pool in west Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A child was taken to the hospital after being rescued from an apartment complex swimming pool Saturday afternoon in west Charlotte.

Crews responded to the Arbor Glen Apartments on Farmer Street around 2 p.m.

The victim’s status was upgraded from life-threatening to serious during the transport, paramedics say.

A witness said he was on the balcony when he saw an adult pull the boy out of the pool.

"We ran down there to see what's up, and his granddaddy did a little CPR and whatever and after that, the little boy started breathing," the witness said.

Apartment residents said the pool wasn't open, but kids sometimes jump the fence.

They also said they hope the apartment complex will hire a lifeguard once the pool is open.
