CMPD: Several Charlotte businesses robbed; charges dropped for one man

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police made arrests in June in four out of 12 robberies reported at businesses across the Charlotte.

The surge in robberies were reported at gas stations, restaurants and retail stores in a 24-hour period, keeping officers extremely busy. Nine of them were between midnight and 9 p.m. Tuesday. Three were reported on Wednesday.

Officers arrested two men who were connected to four of the robberies.

David Thomas was charged in connection with armed robberies at two Quik Trips, one on The Plaza and Albemarle Road. He was arrested Thursday morning at his home.

Charges against Thomas were later dropped.

Brandon Hallums is charged with armed robberies at the Xpress Mart on Nations Ford Road and the 7-Eleven on Brookshire Boulevard.  He was taken into custody Wednesday night after officers located a car used in the robberies.

CMPD is still working to solve other armed robberies across the Charlotte area.

Customers are on edge over the rash of crimes and said more security is needed.

“Well, I think that as far as security, as you can notice there's no security out here,” one customer said.

Police haven't said what they believe is behind this spike in crime.
