2 hurt when wrong-way driver slams head-on into another car on I-85

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Troopers are investigating after they said someone drove the wrong way overnight on Interstate 85 in west Charlotte and crashed head-on into another car.

Officers told Channel 9 that just before 1:30 a.m., the driver was heading southbound in the northbound lanes of I-85 near Little Rock Road when they slammed into another car.

Channel 9 crews on the scene could see the front end of one of the vehicles had been crushed from the impact.

Paramedics said one person had to be rushed to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, while another patient was taken to Novant but is expected to be OK.

Troopers have not said why the driver was driving the wrong way or if any charges will be filed.
