3 screened positive for TB connected to Rock Hill middle school

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Three more people connected to a Rock Hill middle school have tested positive for tuberculosis.

There was one case involving a student at Castle Heights Middle School in December. After that student tested positive, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control tested people associated with the school.

Tuberculosis is a bacterial disease that can be treated with antibiotics.

Channel 9 received a tip Wednesday that more cases emerged from the school, so we contacted DHEC.

They told us the three people tested positive, but that doesn’t mean they’re confirmed cases. Those people will have to go through more testing.

Officials won’t say whether those new cases were students, staff members or someone else associated with the infected student.

DHEC said the final number of confirmed cases will be released the second week of February, when testing has been completed.
