Police arrest suspect in Rockingham shooting

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Police have arrested one man in connected with a shooting at an apartment complex in Rockingham on Friday.

Police say Taquan Taheem McDonald has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, discharging a barreled weapon into occupied property, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He was placed in the Richmond County Jail on a $201,000 secured bond.

Investigators say he shot Melissa Taylor and Teresa Best, who are still being treated at Carolinas Medical Center.

Investigators lifted a lockdown at the apartment complex in Rockingham on Long Drive Friday after McDonald shot the two women just feet away from a child.
 
Neighbors want answers because they've heard several stories about what happened. They said the shooting may have come after the women got into an argument with a man.
 
"I've heard 15 million stories on what happened," one neighbor said. "I know I don't want to stay here. I'm getting my stuff and leaving for the weekend."
