4 arrested after police find AR-15 type rifle, meth in car

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested four people after seizing weapons and drugs, including an AR-15 type rifle and methamphetamine, during a vehicle search Tuesday night in the Steele Creek area.

Officers responded to a call of an armed subject on Choyce Avenue around 11:30 p.m. While they were en route, officers were made aware that the suspect had gotten into a silver Nissan Altima and left the scene.

Police quickly spotted the Nissan, which had four people inside it, and pulled it over.

Officers noticed an AR-15 type rifle in plain view in the passenger seat and arrested the driver, Kevin Almendares. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of heroin and marijuana and trafficking methamphetamine.

A stolen Smith and Wesson handgun was also found in the waistband of one of the passengers, Max Guerrero. He was charged with possession of a stolen firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a concealed weapon.

Investigators told Channel 9 they also found marijuana and 5 ounces of meth in the car.

Along with Almendares and Guerrero, police also arrested Kelly Reyes and Yonatan Santana on drug charges.
