CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A crash involving a Charlotte Area Transit System bus Monday morning caused significant delays in north Charlotte.
Officials with the Charlotte Fire Department said the crash happened around 8:30 a.m. near the 4800 block of North Graham Street, just north of Interstate 85.
A Channel 9 crew went to the scene and observed that a CATS bus was involved in a crash with a minivan and a black sedan.
Officials with Mecklenburg County Emergency Medical Services said five patients were taken to Carolinas Medical Center -- one for life-threatening injuries, one for potentially life-threatening injuries and three for minor injuries. A Channel 9 crew reported that one of the patients was a young person.
Officials said the crash caused significant delays in the area and that drivers should seek alternate routes.
Channel 9 was told that the people on board the bus were transferred to another one that was heading downtown.
Channel 9 is asking officials what led to the crash and if anyone else was hurt.
