Woman charged after running through red light in deadly west Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE — Police said a woman ran through a red light in a west Charlotte crash that killed a 53-year-old man last month.

The crash happened just before 8 a.m. on Sept. 30.

Police said Timothy Stancil, who was driving a 2000 Ford F-350 Super Duty truck, had a green light when he tried to make a left onto Wilkinson Boulevard from Fieldridge Road. At the same time, 25-year-old Yesica Rocia Jimenez Broncano was heading west on Wilkinson Boulevard in a 2008 Chevrolet 4000 and blew through a red light, striking the Ford.

Stancil and his front-seat passenger were thrown from the vehicle. They were not wearing seat belts, investigators said.

Stancil was taken to Atrium Health Main Wednesday with serious injuries. He died a few hours later.

Three passengers in the Ford and one passenger in the Chevrolet were also taken to the hospital.

On Wednesday, a warrant for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle was issued for the arrest of Jimenez Broncano. She was also issued a citation for failing to stop at a red light and has since turned herself into the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Impairment does not appear to be a factor in this crash, police said.
