CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Six cases of mumps have been confirmed in the state and nine probable cases have been reported across Mecklenburg and Iredell counties, health officials told Channel 9 on Thursday.
Officials said a number of patients have already recovered and are no longer infectious.
Officials said the most recent cases are people with no known links to the previous cases.
Channel 9 is working to gather more information about the spread of the mumps across Mecklenburg and Iredell counties. We will break down the latest numbers for you tonight on Eyewitness News at 5 p.m.
Health officials recommend:
- Everyone born after 1957 should check their immunization records to make sure that they are fully protected against mumps. Those born before or during 1957 are considered immune based on likely exposure during childhood.
- If you or your children are not fully vaccinated or if you are unsure, talk to your doctor about getting an MMR vaccine.
- If you think you might be sick with mumps, call ahead to your doctor's office and arrange to be seen. It's important to call ahead so arrangements can be made to avoid exposing other patients or staff members.
