66-year-old stabbed repeatedly during home break-in, deputies say

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies are searching for a man who they said broke into a house in Alexander County over the weekend and stabbed the homeowner.

Authorities were called around 10:15 p.m. Sunday to a reported stabbing at a house on Highway 90 East in Stony Point. When they arrived at the scene, officers found 66-year-old Steven Anderson who had been stabbed multiple times.

Investigators told Channel 9 that Shawn Whren Jr., 26, broke into the home and demanded money from Anderson before stabbing him and fleeing. Police said Anderson and Whren one another.

Warrants have been issued for Whren on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with intent to kill or inflict serious injury and first-degree burglary.
