An 8-month-old child was found dead in a hot car on Wednesday, Wilmington police said.
Officers said the child was found when his mother went to a day care center to pick him up.
Police believe that the baby was never dropped off Wednesday and might have been in the car all day. [
They said there are a lot of questions surrounding the case.
“We have a lot of work to do on this -- first determine the cause of death. We won't know that until the baby is examined and we have to look at timelines and see what happened here,” said Wilmington Assistant Police Chief Jim Varrone.
Meteorologists in the area said the outside temperature reached 86 degrees and it could have reached 135 degrees in the car.
No charges have been filed in the case.
