92-year-old man killed in accident on Highway 321 Tuesday

Family members said Donald Roper was taking his elderly father to the dentist at the time of the crash along Highway 321.

Wednesday night they are not only praying for him, but also the man accused of driving drunk.

Delores Estep and her husband Jack shared a photo of her father, Howard Roper.

Roper lived right across the street from the couple and they planned on gathering for Thanksgiving dinner, but those plans have been called off after this crash along highway 321.

"He was about the most caring person I ever met. He loved life, he loved people and he loved little kids. Just travesty that's all. Just doesn't seem fair," said son-in-law Jack Estep.

Police said Jack White was in a minivan when he crossed into the southbound lanes Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. hitting Donald Roper's SUV and killing his father.

Police charged White with DWI and felony death by motor vehicle.

According to court documents they believe he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

"There was an odor of alcohol on the driver's breath," said an Officer.

Police said they are awaiting results of a blood test.

Both Jack and Delores Estep visited what's left of the SUV.

They are thinking about their family and the family of the other driver and hope what happened is a lesson for all drivers during the holidays.

"Nobody should drive and drink. Get somebody to drive you and I'm sorry for anybody who has a drinking problem," said Delores.

White is currently in jail on a $30,000 bond.

Police said they plan on reconstructing the deadly crash on Thanksgiving day.

One reason they want to do it tomorrow is because officers believe traffic will be much lighter then.
