CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte Douglas is expecting large crowds over the next few days as people start heading home for the holidays.
If you're traveling, officials say to plan for longer security lines.
The security lines have been open since 4:15 a.m. to handle the anticipated increase in passengers for the holiday rush.
Airport officials expect things will pick up starting Thursday and into the weekend, with another spike in travel coming right after the New Year.
Eyewitness News spoke to one person who got to the airport more than two hours early, anticipating longer lines.
“I'm hoping security won't be that bad,” Eric Jones said. “I didn't bring a lot with me, so (I’m) hoping I will get through quickly and my flight shouldn’t be that long.”
Travelers also have a new terminal they can use to go through security -- terminal E.
The airport is reminding travelers they can go through any checkpoint, regardless of what gate they fly out of.
