Airport to relocate cellphone lot

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Douglas International Airport’s free Cell Phone Lot will relocate adjacent to Long Term Lot 1 on Nov. 18, airport officials said.

Drivers can enter the 150-space lot directly off Josh Birmingham Parkway.

The current Cell Phone Lot on Old Dowd Road will close Nov. 17 and eventually convert into Long Term Lot 1 parking spaces. The Cell Phone Lot is used by drivers as a waiting area when picking up family and friends from the airport.

The new location will give drivers direct access to the terminal via Josh Birmingham Parkway. It contains one center aisle, making it easy to enter and exit, airport officials said. Signage will be in place to direct visitors to the lot and airport staff will be on hand for additional assistance during the holidays.

Closure of Rental Car Road to the public

To ease traffic congestion, airport officials are permanently closing Rental Car Road to the public on Nov. 20.

Access will be given only to authorized vehicles. Drivers headed to the terminal must use Josh Birmingham Parkway.
