Albemarle Road shut down after car takes out power lines, traffic lights

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Albemarle Road is blocked in east Charlotte after a car plowed into several power poles and traffic lights.

Both inbound and outbound lanes of Albemarle Road near Regal Oaks Drive, about a block from WT Harris, are shut down.

After hitting utility poles and traffic lights, the car hit a sign outside of a business before coming to rest in front of a medical building.

Three people were taken to the hospital, two with serious injuries.

A witness said the driver appeared to be intoxicated. Police have not confirmed that.

Lanes are not expected to reopen until late Monday afternoon. Officials said they would try to open inbound lanes sooner.
