Appeals court orders new trial for man acquitted of killing Phylicia Barnes

BALTIMORE — The man accused of killing Union County teenager Phylicia Barnes could go back to trial.

This is a case that Eyewitness News has followed since 2010.

The State Attorney's Office in Baltimore tweeted out that a court of special appeals reversed a lower court decision to dismiss charges against Michael Johnson.

It will be the third time he would go to trial in the case.

Prosecutors argued Johnson asphyxiated Barnes while she was visiting her half-sister for Christmas in 2010.

Her body was discovered in a river four months later
