CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two armed robbers stole an undisclosed amount from Charlotte’s new Topgolf facility Thursday morning.
According to the police report, the robbery happened about an hour after closing time.
Topgolf officials said only employees were inside when the robbers stole the cash.
But before they left, the thieves stole a thumb drive with all of the surveillance footage, police said.
Visitors said the crime surprised them.
"They might want to hire some security," a visitor said.
"Considering it's a new place, you would expect the security to be a little bit better than that," said Sydney Frankel, a first-time visitor.
Channel 9 is now asking CMPD if they are looking at this case as an inside job because of the stolen security video.
It raises eyebrows among visitors.
"If they got cash and took the thumb drive, they probably knew what they were doing,” a visitor said.
The police report showed one of the employees received minor injuries during the robbery, but was treated on the scene.
Topgolf emailed this statement to Channel 9:
"We are relieved that no one was seriously hurt and we are cooperating fully with the police investigation. The safety of our associates and guests is always our top priority."
