Arrest made in deadly Fourth of July shooting

CHARLOTTE — Authorities say a 38-year-old man has been charged with murder in a shooting in Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Terry Laney was arrested Saturday, a day after 31-year-old Raymelle Smith was shot to death in the northern part of the city.

Investigators say the two men knew each other, but released no other details about the shooting.

It wasn't known if Laney had a lawyer.
