Auditor's report finds 47% of DWI cases in Mecklenburg Co. dismissed

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — New information raises serious questions about safety on the roads as accused driving while intoxicated  offenders are simply released.

The North Carolina Auditor's Office found 47 percent of DWI cases are dismissed in Mecklenburg County.

It's above the state average of 23 percent.

The audit also revealed information about DWI cases is not readily available to the public, even though the legislature ordered it should be.
