Authorities: Couple steals 100,000 from woman in nursing home

A former SBI agent helped discover more than $100,000 stolen from his own aunt.

Robert and Wanda Doll took the money from an elderly woman in a nursing home while serving as her power of attorney, the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office said.

The victim's nephew said his law enforcement background helped him look into his aunt's financial records.

"They had their own private cookie jar," the victim's nephew, Bobby Bonds, said. "He bought an $8,000 riding lawnmower, which obviously my aunt didn't need while she was in the nursing home."

The Dolls should face a judge on the charges Wednesday.
