Deputies: Lancaster County murder suspect arrested in DC

LANCASTER COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators said they've arrested a suspect after a man was found fatally shot last week in Lancaster County.

Demarcus Hendrix, 34, was found around 5:25 p.m. Aug. 15 by emergency responders in a yard on Hood Park Lane. He had suffered gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital, officials said.

Deputies said they arrested Zakee Antwon Edward Davis, 24, and charged him with murder.

Officials said Davis and Hendrix had a running disagreement concerning the sale of a gun. They said Davis shot Hendrix multiple times after an argument.

Investigators said Davis left the scene in the black Jeep Cherokee Hendrix had driven to the home on Hood Park Lane.

Officers found the Jeep later that night abandoned in a driveway on Clyburn Street, a short distance from Davis’ home on Riley Circle. They said a sheriff’s office K-9 unit tracked from the Jeep to Davis’ home, but Davis was not found.

Investigators learned Davis has relatives to Washington, D.C. and may have fled there. They said they contacted the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department and the United States Marshals Service for assistance.

Authorities said Davis was located by U.S. marshals Wednesday morning and taken into custody.  He was detained in a detention facility in the District of Columbia.

Investigators with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office drove to Washington and interviewed the suspect Wednesday night.

Davis appeared before a judge in Washington and waived extradition. He was brought back to Lancaster and booked into the Lancaster County Detention Center around 1:15 a.m. Thursday.
