ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — Alexander County deputies arrested and charged a man with child abuse after they said the toddler he was babysitting was taken to the hospital Tuesday.
Investigators said a 13-month-old boy suffered bruising and was taken to Davis Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Brenner Children’s Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Authorities charged live-in babysitter Teddy Bentley with felony child abuse causing severe physical injury. They have not provided further details on the extent of the boy’s injuries.
Bentley, 35, is being held in the Alexander County Detention Center under a $40,000 bond.
