‘Ball Cap Bandit' wanted in 5 NC bank robberies, including Hickory, Newton

The FBI in Charlotte believes one man is behind five bank robberies in five different towns in North Carolina.

Agents said in each robbery, the man wore a ball cap. They believe in April he hit banks in Hickory, Newton, Mebane, Mocksville and Durham.

"It looked like the same man to me.  The description gave for this one seemed to fit the one in Newton," resident Betty Beck said.

Authorities said that on April 13, the robber handed a threatening note to the bank teller inside the BB&T on Highway 127 but he did not show a gun.

A preschool nearby was placed on lockdown while police searched for the robber.

They believe on April 26 the same man robbed the First Citizens Bank on South College Avenue.

The robber is described as a black man in his mid-50s, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 fett 7 inches tall and with a thin build.

Police believe the robber parked close to this bank down this road possibly in someone's yard.

Anyone with information that can identify the man is asked to call the FBI at 704-672-6100 or local police departments investigating the robberies.
