Boater found safe off SC coast

SULLIVANS ISLAND, S.C. — (AP) The Coast Guard says a boater who got lost in the fog off Sullivans Island has been found safe.

Officials say they were called shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday by the man's wife, who said her husband had become disoriented in the fog.

The Coast Guard was unable to launch a helicopter initially because of the fog. A helicopter was in the air shortly after 4 p.m.

The Coast Guard says the search ended shortly before 6 p.m. when the man hit a sandbar off Dewees Island and swam to shore.

The man was not hurt. His name was not released.
