Boy, 10, dies in SC house fire despite family rescue efforts

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. — A 10-year-old boy died in a house fire early Tuesday morning in Simpsonville, South Carolina, Channel 9's partners ABC13/WLOS reported.

Canebrake and South Greenville fire departments responded at 2:40 a.m. to the fire on Beauclair Drive.

A family member pulled the boy, Shawn Jones, from the flames, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An 11-year-old boy and other family members were taken to the hospital, officials said.

Grief counselors are available at Jones' elementary school, Fork Shoal, to help students and staff.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office and the Greenville County Coroner's Office are investigating the fire.
