Boy shot in hand recovering, shooter still in hospital

NEWTON — The investigation into the shooting incident that injured an elementary school-age child and man is ongoing, according to Newton police.

The boy, who was shot in the hand, was treated and released Friday night from Catawba Valley Medical Center. He is home recovering.

The suspect, Christopher Shawn Davis, is listed in critical but stable condition at Carolinas Medical Center.

According to the release, Davis is not able to communicate at this time so investigators have not been able to question him.

Newton police, with assistance from the Catawba County Department of Social Services, are continuing to conduct interviews with family members and witnesses.

No charges have been filed at this time.
