MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Firefighters are trying to get a more than 150-acre wildfire under control in the Pisgah National Forest in McDowell County.
It started Saturday when a brush burn pile got out of control, according to the North Carolina Forest Service. Firefighters are worried the strong winds will help the fire spread. Highway 80 is temporarily blocked while firefighters battle the wildfire.
To put the size of the fire into perspective, it’s burning an area about five times the size of Bank of America stadium in uptown Charlotte.
The wildfire is zero percent contained.
