Infant, mother struck by stray bullet, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An infant was shot in the ankle Monday afternoon, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

The incident happened on Romare Bearden Drive at the Arbor Glen apartments.

The mother was grazed by the bullet.

"To hear that a ... (4-month-old) baby got shot, that's crazy," next door neighbor Serena Oliver said.

The injuries are not life-threatening.

The mother showed up at the hospital with a 4-month-old male infant that had a gunshot wound.  The mother was walking to her apartment with the infant when someone shot in their direction.

It does not appear that the victims were the intended targets.

No arrests have been made.
