Bullet narrowly misses woman pumping gas at Charlotte gas station

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte woman is uninjured but shaken up after her car was hit by gunfire Wednesday night.

"I just heard the glass shatter, and I was like, ‘What in the world?’ That really just hit me," the woman, who did not want to be identified, said.

The incident happened at about 6 p.m. when she was filling her gas tank at the QT on West Brookshire Boulevard near her home.

"Right when I was leaving the gas station, I just heard gunshots out of nowhere," she said. "I just tried to cover my face just in case it went through the windows or something. But right when I covered my face, the glass shattered on the windshield and the glass got all over me."

She panicked as the shattered glass was scattered around her car. She didn’t know if anyone else had been hit.

"I just hope no one else got hurt," she said.

She said she didn't get a good look at the car the gunfire came from and doesn't know who was the intended target.

"I was just in shock because the light was still red and when it turned green, I was just like, ‘I just need to get home,’" she said. "So, I got home. That's when I called the police."

She told Channel 9 it's not unusual to hear gunfire in the distance, but since the incident at the QT, she is more aware.

"I'm not scared, but it's just that fear that something can happen at any point, at any time and it happened so fast," she said.
