Burglars with hammers steal Apple merchandise from Steele Creek Target

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Burglars armed with hammers stole more than $24,000 of Apple products from a Charlotte Target late Monday night, police said.

The merchandise was stolen just before the store on Walker Branch Drive in Steele Creek closed Monday night.

Three men with hammers grabbed 29 iPads and 19 Apple watches, police said.

Target officials said they are partnering with local law enforcement to beef up security.

"I'm just glad I didn't come in here last night. That would have freaked me out," a costumer said.

Investigators do not have any suspect descriptions.

Target statement:

"At Target, our guests are at the center of everything we do and our commitment to creating a safe and secure shopping environment in our stores is unwavering. As part of this commitment to safety, we have robust procedures, policies and trainings in place to ensure that our stores are safe places to shop and work. We are partnering with local law enforcement on this matter. As this is an active investigation, please contact them with further questions."
