Busy road in Monroe, bridge in Burke County to close

A busy road in Monroe will close for nearly a month.

The city's Water Resources Department will shut down Concord Avenue between Engleside and Lomax streets on Monday.

Officials are replacing a large portion of a cast iron water main.

The road is expected to reopen Sept. 1.

Detours will be in place.

Crews will start work on a double bridge replacement in Burke County for the next two years.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is replacing a pair of 60-year-old bridges on Interstate 40 that cross over Berea Church Road in Connelly Springs.

The project is expected to be completed in September 2019.
