Cabarrus County school employee charged with child sex crimes

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Detectives with the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office arrested Michael Wayne Osborne, 40, of Concord Friday and charged with felony indecent liberties with a child.

Osborne, a former bail bondsman, was identified after investigators said he was posing as a 14-year-old girl on Facebook soliciting nude photographs of teenage boys.

Seven minor children have been identified as victims in this case, who are from Cabarrus and Cumberland counties of North Carolina as well as Illinois.

Osborne was employed as a grounds maintenance worker by Cabarrus County Schools and coached many athletic teams for middle schools throughout Cabarrus County.

He was a volunteer assistant football coach for the northwest Cabarrus County middle school district.

He was suspended by the school system prior to his arrest and the Sheriff's Office is currently working with school authorities in order to identify all potential victims in the case.

Osborne is currently suspended with pay.
