Candlelight service to honor student on Monday

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A candlelight service to honor a Mooresville High School student will be held on Monday night.

As of Saturday, there are still major questions about how the 17-year-old died.

A friend said he tried to wake up Markell Norris for school on Friday morning.

He said it looked like Norris had been beaten to death in his sleep.

A neighbor near his mobile home on Bell Street who last saw him a few days before couldn't believe something like this could happen to a young man like Norris.

"It was dark when I saw him. He was very cheerful and happy like he always is. Tragic. I can't believe it. How can that happen to sucha sweet boy?" said Susan Stewart.

Agents hope an autopsy by medical examiners will help answer questions about his death.
