Carowinds Opens 2014 season Saturday

FORT MILL, S.C. — (AP) The Carowinds theme park opens its 2014 season on Saturday.

The park on the North Carolina-South Carolina state line along Interstate 77 south of Charlotte, N.C., features two new water slides this year and a new dining hall.

Saturday also marks the 15th anniversary of the roller coaster Afterburn. Thirty-two passenger cars on the inverted coaster takes riders through six inversions. The first 1,500 riders will get commemorative pins.

Two new water slides are the Dorsal Fin Drop and Surfer's Swell. The four-story slides total 600 feet.

The new Harmony Hall Marketplace has 500 seats with an open food court.
